Acknowledgements are much more than thank you notes. They enable us to monitor and evaluate the output of the research we fund.
Therefore, publications resulting from our funding must include an acknowledgement of grant support. That is to say, the funding organization and grant reference number should be mentioned in the funding or acknowledgement section of the publication. Furthermore, researchers are required to record these publications in the Grant Application Portal (GAP) in a timely manner.
How to acknowledge funding in research publications
In the area of research funding, the Swiss Cancer Research foundation works closely with its partner organization, the Swiss Cancer League. Twice a year, they jointly award funds to support selected research projects. The funding organization is indicated in the contracting letter and the contract and can be seen in the project reference number:
Acknowledgements at a glance:
- If your project number starts with KFS (e.g. KFS-1234-02-2022) it is funded by the Swiss Cancer Research foundation. The funding should be acknowledged in this format: Swiss Cancer Research foundation [KFS-XXXX-MM-JJJJ].
- If your project number starts with KLS (e.g. KLS-1234-02-2022) it is funded by the Swiss Cancer League. The funding should be acknowledged in this format: Swiss Cancer League [KLS-XXXX-MM-JJJJ]'.
Recording publications in the Grant Application Portal
To keep track of the research we fund, researchers must record publications in the Grant Application Portal (GAP). Login to the portal and navigate to My Grants. Select the grant on which you wish to report your progress. Then, select Research Outputs and Import. Fill in the Search frame (you need not fill in all fields) and select the record you wish to import.
Research outputs at a glance:
- Please select My Grants before selecting Research Outputs to ensure publications are linked to a specific grant.
- If the Grant Application Portal does not find a record to import, please try again by reducing the filled-in fields (one field may suffice).
The Information sheet on Reporting the progress of your grant or fellowship on the webpage can also be very helpful.
